World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats improve in value. This value is the total of all the leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the level of an item. It's an indicator of the damage and quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.
On your PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are item upgrade on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory suggests that the item level is determined by a formula that calculates the worth of the stats of an item really are. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by adding a name.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another aspect that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, it must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade item s. It merely gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in the early game as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that deals damage by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store or made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. All items have a success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5%.
The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
